This index is to the Chancery court loose papers in the Circuit Clerk's office in Golconda. It is by Plaintiff and is fully searchable by all names.
The Pope County Historical Society recently scanned a very valuable set of index books in the Circuit Clerk’s office. These indexes, created in 2012 by a group of volunteers, are to the loose records in the courthouse vault. These loose court packets themselves include details on various court cases filed over the years. The nature of these cases is varied including family disputes, estate settlements, debts, criminal cases, naturalization records, divorces, and cases of many other types. These indexes are the key to discovering more about your ancestor’s lives – they help make them more than names and dates on a page! The indexes are available to everyone on the website – www.popecoilhs.net under Circuit Court Records. If you would like to obtain a copy of the original records, you may visit the courthouse in person or engage the Society volunteers to obtain them for you. Some files have few pages; some have many.
Member Price - $10 for up to 5 pages, $.75 per page thereafter
Non-Member Price - $15 for up to 5 pages, $1.00 per page thereafter
If you would like to obtain a digital copy of a case file, please send the case number, plaintiff name, defendant name and type of action from the online index as well as the Name of the Index to secretary@popecoilhs.org. A cost for the specific file will be sent to you. As we work on an irregular basis, please allow several weeks for the information/file copies. Once payment is received, the records will be sent via e-mail. We regret that at this time we cannot provide paper copies.
